“Is social media right for my business? Or is it just a waste of time?”
I just got asked by one of our clients about, is social media really worth it?
Now I said, “of course it is”… but the main reason that I believe in social media is because it allows you to be able to showcase your work.
You can put your photos up, before and after photos, or just photos of progression of the job. It showcases the job, the clients get to see the work – as long as you tell them that you’re putting them up there – and they get to tell their friends.
As long as you’re doing a good work, they’ll get excited and tell their friends. It adds so much more social proof to your business.
The main social media platform is Facebook.Facebook is great because at the time of recording here, it’s the biggest one in the world. But it is a “social” social network… so it’s the one with the cat photos, all those sort of things in there, or funny cat videos in there.
So Facebook really is about being social. It’s like going to a party, if you’re always talking about work you’re going to be the person that everybody stays away from and sits in the back of the room.
You really need to be somebody that’s in there as a “social” social network. So do some posts about your work and do some posts about some social, fun stuff. It is as I’ve said a “social” social network.
Then you got LinkedIn. Now LinkedIn is more business to business.
So it’s looking for a more professional network side of things. And there’s a proper protocol that we ought to use to be able to connect with people in LinkedIn.
Also make sure that you connect and then showcase your work or do work through them. As I’ve said there’s a proper protocol for LinkedIn and you don’t see cat videos on there.
Google+
Then you got Google+. Now Google+ is Google’s attempt to making something like Facebook.
The main reason for using Google+, depends on how many people you got there (again you need to find the right platform for your target market), but the main reason initially to set up Google+ would be for SEO or Search Engine Optimization purposes for your website.
So you’ve set up a Google Business page and that’s tied with your Google+ account and just makes it so much more friendly. Google owns Google+ and YouTube, so therefore, it’s going to help with search engine optimization.
But the main reason is, again, if you got a target market that uses Google+, join Google+ and use that platform. If your target market uses Facebook, join that and use that platform.
Then there’s also Twitter, and you just post out tweets on that. I won’t get too much into Twitter, but Twitter’s a very short lifespan of a message platform.
So Twitter is just tweeting people to let people know about things. But if you want to know more about that there’s plenty of videos on YouTube, to be able to say that.
No matter what business you’re in, social media is I think, paramount to your business. It’s a cheap way to get advertising out or more cost-affordable way to get an advertising out. And it builds that social proof and social brand about your business.
