The new year brings in a sense of determination and excitement that makes you feel you can do anything. It also brings out the need to list down your resolutions.
However, we all know that keeping your resolutions up until the end of February is hard, let alone until the end of the year.
Don’t back down yet and don’t let this year become ‘just another year’. Here are some tips on how you can keep the determination and hold yourself accountable in getting what you want for this year.
1. Write Everything Down
First things first, you need to write everything down. First, write your goals as they come into your mind. Then rewrite it with the most important one first.
Once you have everything written down, plan out what you need to do in order to achieve your goals. Remember, a goal with no plan is just wishful thinking. And that is not what we want.
This time, we want results.
Set your schedules for the week and the day, but make sure that you have time every day that is set for nothing in case there are unexpected events and a time set just for you to relax.
2. Learn to Say “No”
If you are a “yes man”, then this year you have to learn to say “no”. If you fill up your time with tasks from other people, you will be nowhere near your goals.
That would also make them dependent on you. I’m not saying that you have to reject every request asked of you. You just have to take what you can. Make sure that you still have time to do your own tasks.
You also need to learn to say ‘no’ to distractions. Which I know is hard but distractions keep you from doing as much as you can in a day.
3. Follow Your Schedule
Following your schedule takes effort, that is why it’s important not to fill your whole day with just schedules.
Just like eating, it’s easier to swallow food when it’s smaller, or cut into bite-size chunks.
Schedule your day with just things that you can do for that day. Focus on 2-3 tasks and schedule other tasks throughout the week.
However, if a task is scheduled for that day, you need to finish it that day. When it’s time for work, you work diligently. And when it’s time to be off from work, you stop working.
The problem with people following their schedules is that they try to fit in too many things in one day.
This will tire you out… and makes you want to not do anything.
Sometimes, your tasks might overlap.
That is why it’s important to prioritize the hardest and most important task first.
4. Keep on Learning
Nothing beats learning more every day. You can either read a book or watch videos about business (or anything that interests you.)
You need to keep learning in order to “feed” your mind.
When you stop, your brain will become dull and it will be harder for you to make decisions in your business.
Besides, as the world keeps on improving, it will be up to you to keep up with it.
What you know from before might not apply anymore. So, keep up!
5. Focus on the Goal
No matter what happens (expected or unexpected), keep your eyes on your goal.
Imagine the outcome that you want to happen so that you will be driven to achieve it.
Make smaller goals every day that will eventually lead you to your bigger goal.
That way, it’ll be easier for you to do it, and you will have a sense of achievement (which is addictive!)
Whenever you finish a goal, reward yourself. There is nothing more satisfying than finishing what you started.
The new year brings in new opportunities with it. Let go of the things that you can’t change anymore from last year and keep moving toward your goal.
